Where to Park in Venice: A Complete Guide for Visitors

Venice is one of the most unique cities in the world, famous for its canals, bridges, and timeless charm. But if you are planning to arrive by car, you may quickly realize that parking in Venice is not as straightforward as in other cities. Since the historic center is entirely pedestrian and accessible only by water or foot, knowing where to park before your visit is essential.

This guide will walk you through the main options for parking in Venice, from Piazzale Roma to alternative spots nearby, so you can enjoy your stay stress-free.

Parking in Piazzale Roma – The Closest Option to Venice

Piazzale Roma is the final point where cars are allowed before entering Venice. It is the city’s transport hub, connected to the train station, buses, and vaporetto (water bus) lines. Here you will find several multi-story garages:

  • Garage San Marco – Modern and secure, just a short walk from the Grand Canal.

  • Autorimessa Comunale (ASM) – One of the largest garages in Europe, with over 2,000 spaces, open 24/7.

Parking here is the most convenient choice if you want to be inside Venice quickly. Prices are higher than other areas, but the proximity and security make it worth considering.

Parking on Tronchetto Island

Another popular option is Tronchetto Island, located just before Piazzale Roma. Here you will find a massive parking facility with thousands of spaces. From Tronchetto, you can easily reach Venice in 5 minutes by People Mover, an automatic shuttle that takes you directly to Piazzale Roma.

Tronchetto is often less crowded than Piazzale Roma and can sometimes be slightly cheaper. It’s ideal if you’re planning to leave your car for several days.

Mestre – A Budget-Friendly Alternative

If you prefer to save money, you can also park in Mestre, the mainland part of Venice. Mestre has multiple car parks near the train station, where you can leave your vehicle and then take a quick 10-minute train ride to Santa Lucia station in Venice.

This option is especially convenient for longer stays, as daily rates in Mestre are significantly lower than in Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto.
